Our Physicians:

Gregory F Adams, MD, FACS

Gregory F Adams, MD, FACS General Surgery and Bariatric Surgery

Dr. Adams earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center and a surgical residency at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS South Carolina and at the Naval Air Station Oceana Medical Clinic. He served as chief of surgery at Decatur General Hospital in Alabama.

Dr. Adams is a board certified general surgeon and a Fellow in both the American College of Surgeons and the Southeastern Surgical Congress. He is also a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Adams is married and has two sons.

Eugene Y Chang, MD, FACS

Eugene Y Chang, MD, FACS Oncology and Surgical Oncology

Prior to beginning his career with Bon Secours, Dr. Chang was employed by Delta Surgical Oncology/Breast Care Center in Portsmouth, Va., where he served as surgical director of surgical oncology.

Chang has a bachelor of science in industrial engineering and operations research from Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in New York, N.Y. He earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at the New Jersey Medical School in Newark, N.J. He completed an internship in surgery at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa., where he also served a residency in surgery.

Chang is a fellow of immunotherapy, as well as a fellow of surgical oncology with the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, Surgery Branch, in Bethesda, Md. In addition, he is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Surgery. He also is a fellow with the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Charles E Ives, MD, FACS

Charles E Ives, MD, FACS General Surgery

Dr. Charles E. Ives holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He earned his medical doctor degree at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his residence in Surgery at Akron City Hospital, in Akron, Ohio. Among the procedures and surgeries performed by Dr. Ives are laparoscopic gallbladder removal, appendectomy and colon surgery. In addition, he is certified in hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Dr. Ives is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Medical Society of Virginia, the Norfolk Academy of Medicine, the American Medical Association and the Christian Medical and Dental Association. Dr. Ives is married and has two children. He enjoys ballroom dancing, inline skating and swimming.

Glen Moore, MD, FACS

Glen Moore, MD, FACS General Surgery and Bariatric Surgery

Glen L. Moore joins Bon Secours after almost 15 years as a Staff Surgeon at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth. Here, he worked to develop and refine the hospital’s Bariatric Surgery Program. His involvement with hundreds of laparoscopic gastric bypass surgeries has contributed to the negligible complication rate of the program.

Dr. Moore earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1983, and completed both his internship and residency in general surgery at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth. He has served as a General Medical Officer with the Marine Corps and as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and the Eastern Virginia School of Medicine. He has been in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy since 1981, proudly serving aboard aircraft carriers and hospital ships as a General Surgeon in times of peace and war.

He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and a member of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Moore is married with three children.

Ray T Ramirez, MD, FACS, FASCRS

Ray T Ramirez, MD, FACS, FASCRS Colorectal Surgery

Dr. Ramirez, medical director of the Bon Secours Colorectal Center, earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, and his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). Dr. Ramirez specializes in surgery of the small intestine, colon and rectum.

Dr. Ramirez completed a General Surgery Residency at EVMS and a Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana. His practice, Tidewater Surgical Specialists, is located in Suffolk, Virginia.

Dr. Ramirez has expertise in the treatment of colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis) fecal incontinence, and prevention of colorectal cancer, hemorrhoids, fissures and fistula/abscess disease. He is recognized for his expertise in using innovative, minimally invasive surgical techniques, which he teaches to physicians around the world.

Emily Rivet, MD

Emily Rivet, MD Colorectal Surgery

Dr. Emily Rivet earned her medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She completed her surgical training, including a general surgery residency and a colon and rectal surgery fellowship, in St. Louis at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. In addition to her medical training, Dr. Rivet received an MBA from Washington University with a focus on professional ethics and health care systems. 

Dr. Rivet performs laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of colon and rectal diseases including cancers, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease and diverticular disease. Her areas of clinical focus include pelvic floor dysfunctions such as constipation, fecal incontinence and obstetrical injuries, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, anal fistulas, perianal abscesses and anal fissures.

Dr. Rivet has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, as evidenced by numerous awards for scholarship and surgical expertise. She has also sustained interests in the promotion of patient safety in the hospital context and has published on the topics of peri-operative patient care and the critical care of surgical patients.

Elizabeth Salzberg, MD, FACS

Elizabeth Salzberg, MD, FACS Bariatric Surgery and General Surgery

Dr. Salzberg earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia, where she also completed her categorical general surgery residency. She completed a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS).

Dr. Salzberg is a board certified surgeon specializing in bariatric and minimally invasive general surgery. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, American Women Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Salzberg lives in Virginia Beach, is married and has one child, a son.

David Spencer, DO, FACS, FASMBS

David Spencer, DO, FACS, FASMBS Bariatric Surgery and General Surgery

David D. Spencer is the medical director for Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Center and is a surgeon with Tidewater Surgical Specialists in Chesapeake. Dr. Spencer is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. He has led the development of the multi-disciplinary team and the comprehensive surgical weight loss program. Dr. Spencer has performed more than 1,000 gastric bypass cases predominately using minimally invasive, or laparoscopic, surgical techniques. His outcomes in gastric bypass surgery are the best in the region, and surpass national standards.

In 1983, he earned his Doctor of Osteopathy from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and his residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, Calif. Dr. Spencer joins Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Center after 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He most recently served as staff surgeon and Division Head of Laparoendoscopic and Bariatric Surgery at Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

He currently holds academic appointments with the F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine and Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, and the International Federation For The Surgery of Obesity.

Virginia A Stewart, MD

Virginia A Stewart, MD General Surgery

Dr. Stewart is a graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She completed her residency in Surgery at Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency in Phoenix, Arizona. The Integrated Residency is a program housed within Banner Samaritan Medical Center, Carl T. Hayden Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with additional surgical rotations at Phoenix Children's Hospital and the Alaska Native Medical Center, as well as other Banner Health facilities.

She is board certified in Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Anthony D Terracina, MD, FACS

Anthony D Terracina, MD, FACS General Surgery and Bariatric Surgery

Anthony D. Terracina, MD, FACS, is now part of Tidewater Surgical Specialists and the Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Center. Dr. Terracina graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and obtained his training at the nationally renowned Parkland Hospital in Dallas. He then moved to Panama City, FL., where he developed and served as the director of the bariatric program at the Gulf Coast Medical Center and Bay Medical Center. In 2004 he moved to Hampton Roads joining the Weight Loss Surgery Center of Hampton Roads in Newport News, VA.

Dr. Terracina is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery and the American Medical Assosciation. Dr. Terracina is also a certified proctor and instructor for Ethicon Endosurgery, teaching other surgeons the technique of minimally invasive surgery.

Elizabeth A Wolfinger, FNP-C

Elizabeth A Wolfinger, FNP-C Surgery

Elizabeth Wolfinger, a licensed nurse practitioner, is associated with Tidewater Surgical Services at Bon Secours.

Ms. Wolfinger holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., where she also earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with an emphasis on Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C). She completed a course in wound care nursing at Wicks Educational Program in Harrisburg, Pa. and is certified as a Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) by the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Society Certification Board.

Ms. Wolfinger is a member of the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Association, the American Nurses Association, and the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners.
