Using digital x-ray systems, like the one at Bon Secours DePaul, interventional radiology procedures can replace open surgical procedures with minimally invasive, targeted treatments. Digital
X-ray systems are faster and produce
higher-quality images than are
possible on older systems. This means that physicians are able to treat a variety of
medical disorders including diseases of the heart and blood vessels,
neurovascular disorders, cancers, and other conditions, without major
surgery.
Interventional Radiology procedures are generally easier for the patient because they involve:
- Less risk
- Reduced pain
- Shorter recovery time
- No large incision
- Reduced X-ray dosage and fewer contrast injections
The Medical Center Radiologists team consists of 42 board-certified radiologists offering a full complement of diagnostic radiology imaging services including all sub-specialties within the radiology field. All of our interventional radiologists have completed fellowship training and special competency certification.
