pulmonary rehabilitation
At Bon Secours, our pulmonary rehabilitation program uses a number of healthcare specialists to help people with breathing problems improve their quality of living.
By using several therapeutic and coordinated approaches we help people breathe a little easier. These approaches include exercise conditioning, strength training, breathing retraining and education as well as emotional support. Most importantly, our program encourages the individual to take an active role in his/her healthcare.
Pulmonary rehabilitation offers patients a program to improve his/her quality of life by:
- helping to control and lessen the symptoms of breathing problems;
- increasing the level of independence and physical activity;
- reducing the complications associated with breathing problems;
- helping to reduce the need for hospitalization.
Individuals who participate with pulmonary rehabilitation often have a better quality of life once they have completed the program. Many are able to breathe better, they have increased strength and endurance, many have returned to traveling, decrease their anxiety and/or depression, prevent hospitalizations and possibly return to work.
By being able to do more for themselves, self-confidence increases; people become more involved in their care and live a more active lifestyle.
