the day of the procedure

Admissions

When you arrive at the center at your designated time, our receptionist will greet you and start the admission process. Admitting, procedure, and recovery times vary, please allow at least 2.5 hours for your visit. You will be escorted to a private bay in the admitting/recovery area. After changing into a gown, the admitting nurse will record your vital signs, ask you about your procedure preparation and the medication you take at home. An intravenous line will be started so that you can receive sedation during the procedure. You will then be transported to the procedure room.

Procedure

Depending on the type and complexity, endoscopic procedures takes from fifteen to thirty minutes. During the procedure, you will receive intravenous sedation to keep you sleepy, relaxed and comfortable while your vital signs and oxygen levels are monitored. Following the procedure, you will be taken to a private bay in the recovery area.

recovery

Recovery typically takes about thirty to forty-five minutes. When fully recovered from your sedation, you will be served a drink. Your physician will discuss the procedural findings with you and arrange for appropriate follow up. You will also receive written post-procedure instructions with this information. Typically, you can resume your normal diet when you return home. Remember, if you receive sedation, you may not drive yourself home.
