Our surgeons offer world-class expertise in innovative procedures that combine colonoscopy with minimally invasive techniques for removal of large or less accessible colon polyps without major surgery. They are the first in Hampton Roads to offer patients this innovation that addresses polyps quickly, without the long recovery time and potential complications of major surgery. The Bon Secours Colorectal Center was the first in the area offering laparoscopic-assisted colonoscopy. Available tests range from anal/rectal physiology, to colonoscopy, to genetic testing.
Our results speak for themselves:
- More of our colon cancer patients are diagnosed at an early stage (stages 0, 1 or 2) than the national average
- Our patients' five-year survival rates are better than the national rates
- Colorectal cancers account for a larger percentage of our new cancer cases than the national average
The best way to stop doubt and worry is to be seen. Colorectal cancer is the second most common and second most deadly form of cancer for U.S. adults. Everyone is at risk, though some are even more likely to develop cancer of the colon or rectum due to genetics or to lifestyle risk factors. Call your primary care physician and make an appointment today.
community awareness
In March of 2011 Bon Secours Hampton Roads held its first ever Colon Cancer 5k. Despite the dreary weather, over 100 runners and walkers registered for the race to raise colorectal cancer awareness. The proceeds from the event benefit cancer care patients through the Bon Secours Foundation.
