
Getting to know your hernia care team
Steven B. Hopson, MD, FACS
Medical Director of the Bon Secours Hernia Center at Mary Immaculate
Dr. Steven Hopson received his undergraduate degree from Temple University and earned his Doctor of Medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He completed a residency in General Surgery and served as Chief Resident at East Carolina University’s Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Hopson is board-certified in General Surgery and a Fellow
of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of
the American Hernia Society. He has been practicing in the
Hampton Roads area since 1995 with TPMG General Surgery.

At the Bon Secours Hernia Center at Mary Immaculate we take a team approach to your health care and The Hernia Center team includes many specialists who help with all aspects of your care. In the weeks before your surgery, at the hospital and when you return home, you will come in contact with many members of your healthcare team, including:
Primary Care Physician
Your
primary care physician, or family practitioner, takes care of your
general health. He or she may perform your pre-op physical.
Surgeon
Your surgeon is the
doctor who performs the actual hernia repair surgery and is responsible
for your overall health during your hospital stay and following your
surgery.
Anesthesiologist
Your
anesthesiologist is the doctor who administers anesthesia during your
surgery, monitors your vital signs during and after your surgery, and
oversees your post-surgical pain control.
Nurses
Before and during your hospital visit, you will meet a number of nurses who will care for you.
Spiritual Care Team
The hospital
chaplains at Bon Secours Mary Immaculate are trained to meet your
spiritual needs, and those of your family, regardless of religious
denomination.
