Volunteering at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center

At Bon Secours Maryview, we expect that all our applicants should be sincerely committed to helping
others, dependable, and able to work independently because of the very
demanding nature of healthcare.
In order to apply for a volunteer position, you must be at least 18 years of age and out of high school. (If you are under the age of 18 and interested in volunteering, you may be eligible for our Junior Volunteer Program.)
how do I apply?
In order to becoming a member of the Bon Secours Maryview volunteer staff you must complete the following process:
- Submit an application.
The volunteer application (.doc) and two forms of reference (.doc) should be submitted prior to the day of the interview. - Attend an interview.
Prospective volunteers must interview with the Volunteer Manager. Applicants may schedule the interview appointment after reading the volunteer handbook (.doc) and filling out the paperwork and bring the application and references with them or turn in the application and references in and the Volunteer Manager will call to schedule the interview after reviewing the paperwork. - Submit two references.
Two completed reference forms (.doc) should be submitted with the application.
are there any other requirements?
If you are selected as a volunteer at Bon Secours Maryview, there are some requirements before you can begin actively volunteering. Volunteers must:
- Undergo a Tuberculosis Skin Test (aka PPD).
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Center for Disease Control require healthcare volunteers to have two Tuberculosis (PPD) skin tests before beginning volunteering and a follow-up test every year while in active volunteer status. The TB skin tests are free. Details and instructions will be given after acceptance into the program. - Complete our orientation.
Orientation to the Volunteer office is required before beginning volunteering. Volunteer orientation is typically completed on your first day of volunteering and prior to reporting to your assigned area. - Participate in a probation period.
The probation period begins on the first day of the volunteer assignment and continues through the first 50 hours. The probationary period gives the opportunity to familiarize the new volunteer with policies, procedures, staff, and the layout of the hospital. It also allows us to establish the best placement for new volunteers. Placement changes may occur until a “good fit” placement is made. - Commit your time.
Volunteers are asked to serve at least a four-hour shift once a week. - Purchase and wear a uniform.
Uniforms are required to identify volunteers from other hospital personnel and to foster a professional image. Volunteers are required to purchase and maintain their own uniforms.
If you have any questions or to find out more information please read our volunteer handbook (.doc) or contact our Volunteer Manager.
