Commission on Cancer Re-Accreditation Community Hospital Cancer Programs with Commendation

The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted the Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center and Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center cancer programs a three year designation as a Community Hospital Cancer Program with commendation.

What does this mean for our patients?
When you come to Bon Secours Maryview or Bon Secours DePaul's cancer program you know that we uphold the highest of standards for our patients. You can rest assured that you will receive the best care.

Our cancer programs earned commendation in the following three (3) areas:

  • Having perfect quality of data submitted to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) for each year included in the survey;
  • Having very active and strong outreach, prevention and detection programs; and,
  • Implementing multiple good quality improvements to the cancer program each year.

What does this accreditation program recognize?
The CoC Accreditation Program encourages hospitals, treatment centers, and other facilities to improve their quality of patient care through various cancer-related programs. These programs focus on prevention, early diagnosis, pretreatment evaluation, staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, surveillance for recurrent disease, support services, and end-of-life care. Recognizing that cancer is a complex group of diseases, the CoC Cancer Program Standards promote consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists.

More about the Commission on Cancer Accreditation Program
There are currently more than 1,400 CoC-accredited cancer programs in the United States - only 25% of Hospitals have accredited cancer programs and 80% of all cancers are diagnosed and treated in those approved programs.
